Photo-identification (photo ID) is a commonly used method in cetacean monitoring. The morphology of dolphin dorsal fins and whale caudal fins are unique from one individual to another.

This non-invasive method is essential for conservation: it helps us understand social structures, track migrations and estimate populations. Thanks to your photos, we can collect valuable data to better protect cetaceans.

Flukebook is a free online resource set up to strengthen global cetacean conservation. This platform allows researchers to manage, share, analyze and archive their data using innovative and easy-to-use Artificial Intelligence (AI) software. Flukebook allows, using photo ID, the individual recognition of cetaceans and thus contributes to the conservation of marine mammals and their habitats.
