We are planning several projects in order to achieve our objectives.
Your support will always be beneficial to help us achieve our missions.
From capacity building to population estimates, all our projects share common aspects.
Different levels of information and actions are needed to conserve marine mammals in the Caribbean.
The CCS aims at helping the islands to develop local projects to fill their knowledge gaps in order to increase conservation measures. For some islands, knowing the diversity, distribution and seasonality of cetacean species would be a huge step forward.
At the same time, developing standardized protocols is a key to share & compare the data. Different islands share the same populations and must work together to reach effective conservation measures.
SHARING IS CARING
Developing publication database and meta data-base are one of our projects to help connexion and exchange in the Caribbean.
Sharing experiences, skills and data will catalyze the science behind the marine mammal species that share our water and therefore their protection.
The purpose of the Caribbean Cetacean Society is to develop scientific projects to gather useful data that will benefit conservation measures.
We are not using invasive methods and we will not disturb marine mammals if it is not to answer a fundamental ecological question.
"Give a man a fish, and he will eat once,
teach him how to fish and he will be able to eat everyday."
Trainings and capacity building is a key element to develop the different territories of the Caribbean and therefore sustainably help conservation.
NON INVASIVE METHODS
We care particularly about animal welfare and minimizing heavy animal disturbance will always be one of our priorities.
Passive Acoustic Monitoring, Photo ID, Drone Based studies, environnemental-DNA, Distance Sampling... are powerful methods that we are using to obtain meaningful information.
Caribbean is a special place with a large diversity of nations, cultures,
economies, laws, languages...
There is a need to adapt our methods to the regional constraints.
Our small coastlines do not allow us to work with the same efficiency as some continents have on stranding for exemple.
We try to innovate and use Artificial Intelligence systems,
UAVs and the most advanced analysis methods.
We try to be as transparent as possible on our missions and communicate about the results to concerned administrators.
≪We Protect what we love and we love what we know.≫
Raising awareness around us is a useful way to engage people.
